The waist measurements for belt sizes differ between the measurements for dress sizes because our belts are sized to fit one's "true waist" (the narrowest part of the waist). However, they can be worn any way you want! When choosing a belt, make sure to measure your waist where you want the belt to sit. In general, one who wears a medium dress will also wear a medium belt (the same is true of all other sizes).
